Cristal™ heat seal and transparent packaging papers receive recyclability certification

This innovative technology continues to evolve, and Cristal™ products, including both transparent papers and transparent heat seal packaging products, are now certified recyclable recently passing the
Western Michigan University SBS Equivalency (WMU SBS-E) testing protocol.

According to Western Michigan University, the protocol includes repulping, screening and cleaning the sample and comparing it to accepted recycled standards, with no impacts to strength or optical properties.

“Achieving this next level of recyclability certification enables us to offer more enhanced solutions to our customers,” said Robyn Buss, Executive Vice President of Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s Food Packaging & Technical Solutions business area. “Cristal™ products offer sustainable solutions to all parts of the supply chain, including brand owners looking for a completely recyclable package.”

The transparency levels of Cristal™ products offer replacement solutions for window packaging, or sachets and bags when a brand owner wishes to have their products in full-view.

In addition to achieving the WMU United States-based recyclability testing, Cristal™ products have also received 3rd party certification from Centre technique du papier certifying Cristal’s heat-seal coating is recyclable to the European Union’s EN13430 standards.
